Sauk Valley
swept at Kankakee

The Sauk Valley Skyhawks men and women both lost nonconference road games Saturday, with the men falling 75-64 and the women losing 97-62.

The Sauk men (18-7) fell behind by double-digits early, then rallied to take the lead with 6 minutes left. But they ran out of gas and suffered their second loss to Kankakee on the season. Mike Mann hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points, while Stanley Moore had 12 points and six assists and Matt Ross added 11 points, nine rebounds, five steals and two blocks.

The Sauk women (17-7) trailed 46-29 by halftime. Shamika Williams led the Skyhawks with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Lydia Box had 14 points and five rebounds.


RFHS grad Russell shines for Redbirds

Rock Falls native Jamie Russell had two strong games this past weekend as Illinois State picked up a pair of lopsided victories.

Russell, a 2008 RFHS grad, had 17 points, eight rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks in the Redbirds’ 84-68 win over Northern Iowa on Friday in Normal. She followed that up with 11 points, six assists, four rebounds and a steal in Sunday’s 82-63 home
victory over Bradley.

ISU (14-9, 9-3 Missouri Valley) has now won three straight and six of its last seven games.

Wildcats’ three-game streak snapped

Robbie Hummel scored a season-high 27 points and pulled down a
game-high nine rebounds as Purdue snapped
Northwestern’s three-game winning streak with an 87-77 victory.

Purdue (16-9, 6-6 Big Ten) had lost three of its last four home games after winning its previous 26.

The Wildcats (15-9, 5-7) got a game-high 30 points from John Shurna, but were outscored by 10 in the final 6:57 after Shurna tied the game at 57.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Predators split series with Diesels

The Sauk Valley Predators bounced back from Saturday’s 125-118 loss at Indiana to beat the Diesels 129-111 on Sunday at Highland Community
College in Freeport.

Jeremiah Box scored 31 points, Desmond
Holloway added 27 points and 10 rebounds, and Herman Favors had 21 points and 14 assists for the Predators (6-3) in the victory. Carlton Fay had 18 points and 16 rebounds and Antwon Harris chipped in 16 points and four steals as the Preds led 40-17 after one quarter and never looked back.
