Sterling goes 2-2 at chess tourney

PEORIA – Sterling High School’s chess team ended the first day of competition Friday at the state tournament with two wins and two losses.

That placed Sterling 81st among 125 teams. The tournament concludes today at the Peoria Civic Center.

Senior Dylan Pillars, junior Michael Dane and sophomore Chase Pipes each picked up two wins at their respective tables Friday for Sterling. Other winners Friday for Sterling were Jeremiah Miller and Eric Barber, both seniors, junior Justin Wilhelm, and sophomores Kylan Johnson and Colton Donahue.
