Sauk hosting commemorative events

DIXON – Sauk Valley Community College has two free events planned to commemorate Black History Month.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Nelly’s Echo will perform in the college’s East Mall at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Nelly’s Echo tells his story through song. His hourlong performance will include a mix of blues, reggae and soul.

Faculty member Lenie Adolphson will present “From the Past to the Future,” a program on black history, at 7 p.m. Thursday in room 1K4.

Adolphson has been an adjunct instructor at the college since 2007. She teaches western civilization and American ethnic culture courses. Her presentation will include traditional African-American music, and pictures and history of slavery and civil rights.
