Century marked
With Aleena Hammelman back in the fold, Sterling wrapped up the regular season in style with a 66-47 Northern Illinois Big 12 West victory over LaSalle-Peru on the road.
The victory was coach Julie Schroeder’s 100th in five seasons at Sterling.
Hammelman scored a game-high 16 points for the Golden Warriors (15-15, 6-4 NIB-12 West). The senior, who missed 10 full games with a broken right fibula, also had 10 rebounds and six steals to flirt with a triple-double.
“There’s just a different energy on the floor with Aleena out there, and we feel like we’re in a good place going into the postseason,” Schroeder said.
Ashli King had 12 points for Sterling, and Brittany Zawacki led the Cavaliers (7-19, 2-8) with nine.
Geneseo 45, Dixon 42, OT: The Duchesses outscored the Maple Leafs 25-20 in the second half, but were outscored 9-6 in the extra session in NIB-12 West loss at home.
Dixon (13-15, 5-5) was led by Brooke Bailey’s 18 points and went 8-for-9 at the stripe as a team. Devan Griffin led a balanced Geneseo (24-4, 9-1) attack with 13 points.
Boys basketball
AFC 61, Milledgeville 53: The Raiders outscored the Missiles 19-4 in the third quarter to pull away for an NUIC East win in Milledgeville.
Ermir Ramadani scored 23 points to lead AFC (13-9, 6-5).
Kaleb Ebersole had 16 points for Milledgeville (5-18, 2-8).
Riverdale 55, Amboy 41: The Clippers couldn’t prevent the Rams from pulling away in a Three Rivers tussle in Amboy.
Wes DeClercq scored a game-high 31 points for Riverdale (20-3, 11-1). Mike Stephenitch led Amboy (6-17, 1-12) with 18 points.
West Carroll 74, Stockton 61: Brady Edwards scored 10 of his game-high 30 points in the first quarter as the Thunder locked up the outright NUIC West title on its home floor.
Edwards also grabbed 13 rebounds, and Eric Naples added 11 points for West Carroll (23-3, 12-0). Cole Schamberger led Stockton (13-14, 5-6) with 22.
