Things to think about regarding an administrator

An administrator worth his or her salt is a $100,000 position. After all, the Dixon Rural Fire chief makes over 100K (yes, amazing but true).

The board will have to allow a good, forward-thinking administrator to do the job. Nepotism and crazy employee benefits negotiated by a retired union business agent would have to change (yes, of course, in negotiations).

The budget process would have to be done by the administrator and not layman board members who know everyone and are OK with passing deficit budgets, year after year.

A county administrator would have to have oversight and support for his myriad certain and required changes, but not interference.

The Lee County administrator would have to have advanced degrees and/or training and be well versed on the Open Meetings Act and other compliance issues currently problematic for the board (however, mediocrity tends to breed mediocrity).

And last, but most important, is that the administrator hiring process has to be open, honest and not reek of nepotism.

For all the folks who have read articles written by Sauk Valley Media over the last 2 years and before about the board, you will know those items will be impossible for the current board to navigate. Better yet, allow someone else to navigate.

Please don’t ruin a good, solid administrator’s life by bringing him or her (fat chance it would be a her) into the current board environment. Vote to change the board in 2012.
