STERLING – Kathleen F. Wasson, 85, of Sterling, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Genesis West Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. She was a registered nurse at the Visiting Nurse Association in Springfield, and later was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. for 18 years.

Kathleen was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Strawn, the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Aellig) Watterson. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Champaign-Urbana, and attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She married Gordon Wasson on Feb. 24, 1979, in Sterling. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2004.

She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling, and later became a member of St. Anne Episcopal Church in Morrison. She was on the Vestry and St. Monica Andler Guild; served as president of Episcopal Church Women for several terms; taught Sunday school; volunteered with the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and at nursing homes; and enjoyed helping with school activities when her children were young.

Survivors include one daughter, Luann (Paul) Petrulakis of Pingree Grove; one son, James David “JD” Pfulb of Peoria; one grandson, Ryan Petrulakis; and two stepgrandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Anne Episcopal Church with the Rev. Gary Lawler officiating.

A memorial fund has been established.
