POLO – Grace C. Smith, 68, of Polo, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. She worked for the IRS and Local 150, and retired after 20 years with the Dixon Correctional Center.

She was born April 15, 1943, in Chicago, the daughter of James E. Buegel and Jean (Varneckis) Buegel. She was united in marriage to Douglas Smith on June 9, 1962, in DeKalb. Grace enjoyed her Polo Bridge Club.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Smith; daughter, Amy Smith of Chicago; sons, Brian (Molly) Smith of Dixon and Bret (Julie) Smith of Sterling; and grandchildren, Jenna, Heather, Abby, Margaret and Kalen Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Carol Corbo.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo.

Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Polo.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
