BELVIDERE – Betty Jean Wells, 71, of Belvidere, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Serenity Home and Hospice in Oregon.

Betty was born Dec. 26, 1940, in Dixon, the daughter of Max and Barbara (Higgins) Oliphant. She graduated in 1958 from Dixon High School. She married Wayne R. Wells on Feb. 20, 1960, in Rockford. She enjoyed raising her family and her cats, including Ruffles. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, aunt and friend.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne of Belvidere; one daughter, Paula Wells of Belvidere; one son, Jeffrey R. Wells, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Miller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; mother, Barbara Oliphant; one sister, Maxine Porter; and one brother- and sister-in-law, Sam and Betty Wells of Dixon. She also is survived by three aunts, one uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vern and Lillian Higgins; and her father, Max Oliphant of Dixon.

Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, with the Rev. Frank Langhoff, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Wells family in care of Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, 213 Crawford Ave., Dixon, IL 61021.
