ROCK FALLS – Vinson Shinault, 84, of Rock Falls, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

Vinson was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Pulaski, Va., the son of Charles and Isabelle (Akers) Shinault. He married Marilyn Poore on Aug. 27, 1951, in Bristol, Tenn. His beloved wife died May 24, 2008. Before retiring in 1984, Vinson worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling for more than 30 years. He also worked at Spaulding’s Used Cars and Parts for 50 years. Vinson enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughter, Robin (Kyle) Metternich of Two Rivers, Wis.; two sons, Ed (Sharon) Shinault of Rock Falls and Rex (Julia) Shinault of Dixon; his special friends Don and Linda Anderson of Rock Falls; seven grandchildren, Piper (Rusty) Turner, Brittany (Miles) Camp, Brett (Mandy) Miller, Bre Boss, Kelby (Brittney) Trowbridge, Christopher Shinault and Troy Boss; and 12 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, Joseph, Jacob, Preston, Izabelle, Brandon, Bobby, Mazie, Quentin, Talan and Kelby. He also was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral at noon, Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, with Rick Morris, pastor of First Christian Church in Rock Falls, officiating. Burial will follow at Coloma Township Cemetery in Rock Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; 150 N. Michigan Avenue, Suite 400, Chicago, IL 60601.
