Prophetstown finishes tied with Rams in Three Rivers race

The Prophetstown Prophets girls basketball team was unable to claim sole possession of the Three Rivers crown Thursday after falling to rival Erie 40-38 in Prophetstown.

With the loss, the Prophets fall to 12-2 in conference, leaving them tied with Riverdale to close the regular season.

Cassie Reiley led Prophestown (19-9) with 16 points. She made 10 of 12 free-throw attempts.

Taylor Stewart and Paige Rus each scored eight points for Erie (11-16, 5-9).

Wethersfield 74, Morrison 34: Morgan Ammon scored 14 points as Morrison (5-21) fell on the road. Tyler Fuller added 10 points.

Newman 43, Fulton 37, OT: Mary Alice Oswalt scored 11 of her game-high 20 points in overtime to lead the Comets to a Three Rivers win over the Steamers in Sterling.

Jaimie Hurd scored 11 points for Newman, which finishes the regular season 10-18 and 9-5 in the Three Rivers. Rachell Hageman added seven points and 12 rebounds.

Morgan Sanquist scored 11 points for Fulton (10-17, 5-9).

Riverdale 75, Bureau Valley 10: The Storm fell behind 22-2 after the first quarter and suffered another lopsided loss, losing by 65 to the Rams in Three Rivers Conference play in Port Byron.

Elle May and Hannah Nimrick scored 20 points apiece to lead Riverdale (21-5, 12-2).

Bailey Roberts scored nine points for Bureau Valley (1-29, 0-14).

Aquin 48, Polo 43: The Marcos outscored Aquin 17-0 in the fourth quarter, but they could not rally all the way back from 23 points down to win in Polo.

Alina Llanas led Polo (10-15, 5-7 NUIC East) with 13 points. Ashley Haye chipped in nine points.

Sophie Brunner had 16 points for Aquin (23-4, 11-1).

Orangeville 49, AFC 34: The Raiders were even at 19-all at the half before being outscored 16-5 in the third quarter in an NUIC East loss at Orangeville.

AFC (4-17, 1-11) got a game-high 16 points from Sarah Matson and 10 from Kristen Dillon.

Julie Behring, Kendra Ostendorf and Brandi Tempel scored 10 points each for Orangeville (11-14, 7-6).

Girls bowling

Sterling 2,747, United Township 2,596: The Golden Warriors wrapped up the regular season by holding off a young United Township team at Blackhawk Lanes.
