STERLING – Daniel E. Duncan, 86, of Sterling, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Coventry Living Center in Sterling. He was a wire drawer at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. for 34 years before retiring.

He was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Welch, W. Va., the son of Robert and Pearl (Dowell) Duncan. He married Virginia (Billings) Porter on Nov. 25, 1981, in Johnson City, Tenn. She died June 9, 2007. He was a member of the former Rock River First Church of God in Sterling.

Surviving are his stepson, Rick (Brenda) Porter of Rock Falls; his stepdaughter, Patricia (Robert) Dickson of Sterling; his sister, Bradley “Locke” Billings of Sterling; his brother, David Duncan of Sterling; six grandchildren, Cindy Stevens, Robert Stevens, Amy Gruchow, Melissa Cushman, Jennifer Wolf and Meghan Porter; and eight great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Edith Stevens.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m., Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Scott Porter officiating.
