West Carroll boys win again

Brady Edwards posted a double-double and the West Carrol Thunder remained atop the NUIC standings with a 55-45 victory at home over East Dubuque.

Edwards finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals for West Carroll (19-3, 9-0). Eric Naples added 10 points and four assists, Tevan Campbell had nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, and Jason Bacero chipped in eight points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

AFC 48, Mooseheart 45, OT: The Raiders outscored the Red Ramblers 6-3 in the extra frame to earn a nonconference road win.

Paul Rod made six free throws, which accounted for all AFC’s points in overtime. Rod scored 10 in the game. Ryan Mairs finished with 12 points and Nate Fahs added 11 for AFC (9-9).

Girls basketball

Kewanee 64, Bureau Valley 17: The Storm did not score in the first quarter and trailed 37-6 at halftime in a makeup game in Manlius.

Lacey DeVenney led Bureau Valley (1-28, 0-14 Three Rivers) with six points. Eusebia Quintero scored 12 points for Kewanee (20-9, 10-3).

Warren 54, West Carroll 24: Danica Balbach scored 24 points to lead the Warriors past the Thunder in Warren.

Kaylee Vos scored 11 points for the Thunder (2-22, 0-11 NUIC West).

Orangeville 55, Polo 30: Aleetra Roberts’ 10 points and eight rebounds weren’t enough to lift the Marcos (10-14, 5-6) to an NUIC East victory on the road.

Eastland 44, Lena-Winslow 21: The Cougars outscored Le-Win in every quarter, and shut the Panthers out in the second period en route to a NUIC West win.

Lexis Macomber scored a game-high 17 points for Eastland (13-14, 8-3). Courtney Haight paced Le-Win (7-14, 4-5) with 14 points.
