Hawkeyes rally past Minnesota
Senior Matt Gatens scored 18 points and Iowa rallied to beat Minnesota 63-59 on Wednesday night in Iowa City, Iowa, and snap a three-game losing streak.
Devyn Marble added 12 points for the Hawkeyes, who overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half and closed the game on a 9-0 run.
Marble followed a 3-pointer with an emphatic one-handed dunk to tie the game at 59 with 1:43 left. Bryce Cartwright gave the Hawkeyes (12-11, 4-6 Big Ten) the lead with a pair of free throws, and Gatens hit a layup with 8 seconds left to seal the victory.
Minnesota (16-7, 4-6) lost despite shooting 10 of 19 from 3-point range. Ralph Sampson III had 13 to lead the Gophers, who lost for just the second time in six games.
No. 23 Michigan 68, No. 20 Indiana 56: Trey Burke scored 18 points and No. 23 Michigan raced to a 20-point first-half lead before holding on for the victory over No. 20 Indiana in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines (17-6, 7-3 Big Ten) remained unbeaten at home. They got off to a quick start after last weekend’s loss at No. 3 Ohio State, scoring the first 13 points and eventually taking a 28-8 lead.
Indiana (17-6, 5-6) twice fought back within two points in the second half, including at 52-50 with 3:20 remaining. Tim Hardaway Jr. hit a big 3-pointer for Michigan and, after Indiana’s Derek Elston missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Stu Douglass made a 3-pointer to put the Wolverines up by eight.
Jordan Hulls scored 18 points for Indiana.
