Give girls credit, not criticism

I picked up the Jan. 31 issue of the Daily Gazette and read a column titled “Not music to my ears” written by SVM sports reporter Larry Brennan.

The author of this article questioned a song selection of the Sterling High School pom squad. Larry asked whether those songs teach our kids to be sexy or get low? Really, Larry?

Nowhere in your article did you give credit to those girls for the great halftime routines they put on all year, or all the hard work they put in, and you question their song selection? Those girls often get little or no credit for all their hard work.

The song you questioned was a guy/girl routine the Sterling High School pom squad and male students practiced all week. It was done tastefully with all the students performing in front of their peers and parents. The guys actually danced to that portion of the music you are questioning.

Are we teaching our daughters to get low or be sexy, you ask? Please, Larry, if you want to question morals in sports, there are plenty of other subjects you can tackle.

So lay off the Sterling High School pom squad. And give the girls credit for all their hard work.

Good job, girls. I am one of your biggest fans.

Adan, so by your way of thinking, hard work negates standards? And, as long as 'hard work' is done, no one may question the propriety of the children's 'act'? Interesting. Well, thanks for settling the matter. We will surely defer to your 'artistic' tastes in such things. ;)
