WASHINGTON – Derrick Rose had 35 points and eight assists, and Joakim Noah posted his fifth straight double-double as the Chicago Bulls beat the Washington Wizards 98-88 on Monday night.
Noah flirted with a triple-double when the Wizards started trapping Rose at every opportunity and Noah served as Rose’s release point. He finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.
The Bulls, who led by 22 points at one point, played without Richard Hamilton and Luol Deng, but welcomed back C.J. Watson, who returned from his sore right wrist.
An expansive Rose vowed to use his late-game misses on Sunday against the Heat as motivation.
“Tonight,” he said beforehand, “I’m going to try to go crazy.”
He did so with 13 first-quarter points, and then served as Kyle Korver’s facilitator in the second quarter, during which the sharpshooter scored 11 of his 17 points.
Rose also spoke passionately about his late-game misses against the Heat.
“If anything I’m just hurt not only for me but the city of Chicago, knowing how big that game was to the organization and the city and our fans all over,” he said. “That’s a rivalry there. You had your best player with the opportunity to take the lead and I didn’t come through. The only thing I can do is hope they stick with me. I promise I won’t let them down again.”
Star of the game: Derrick Rose, Bulls, 35 points, 8 assists
Key performers: Joakim Noah, Bulls, 14 points, 13 rebounds; John Wall, Wizards, 20 points, 6 assists
