Doug Furr cuts off the braid of Air Play Sports owner Tim McNinch on Friday evening, after McNinch challenged the Sterling community to raise $1,000 for the Sauk Valley Food Bank.

With donations still coming in, more than $1,700 has been raised.

The “at least 20-inch” braid will be sent to Wigs for Kids, an organization that makes wigs for cancer patients. McNinch also is a co-organizer of Fourth Fridays, which were going on Friday in Sterling’s downtown.
