ROCK FALLS – Police this morning released the name of a 34-year-old Rock Falls man who was found dead Thursday in a sunken concrete patio outside his Rock Falls apartment building.

George E. Chavarria was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is expected later this morning, police said in a news release.

Police are treating Chavarria's death as "suspicious" until a cause of death can be determined.

Police were called about 2:22 p.m. to the Hampton Apartments complex at 1203 Dixon Ave. on a report of an apparent assault. The man's employer came looking for him when he didn't show up for work. The employer found Chavarria's body on the small rectangular patio, accessible by three steps, that is behind the apartment building, they said.

Illinois State Police crime scene investigators and Rock Falls officers searched Chavarria's apartment Thursday night and towed a blue Buick Century, which was parked behind the alcove.
