Snow reminder of approaching postseason

The second snowstorm of the season hit the Sauk Valley on Friday afternoon.

Several inches of that powdery stuff fell and, for the second time in eight days, gyms ended up dark and quiet on what would have been an otherwise busy prep sports night.

For many athletic directors, the snow meant an afternoon on the phone and consulting the calendar of events to determine when games will be made up.

A few made final decisions and makeup dates and times were finalized. You probably saw the list of reschedules on B3 before you made it to the cozy confines of B4.

Here on B4, you’ll see what several athletic directors found out when they opened up their calendars.

Time is running out on the winter season.

Friday, the IHSA released the pairings for 1A/2A girls basketball regionals, which kick off on Feb. 6. Just look over to your right to see where your favorite area squad starts its potential magical run.

Can’t wait that long for postseason prep action?

As Assistant Sports Editor Christopher Heimerman reported on B1, the winter sports postseason begins Saturday at Plum Hollow Lanes.

Dixon and Oregon’s bowlers will have the chance to qualify for next weekend’s state tournament in O’Fallon, by either being one of the top two teams or two individuals at the Oregon Sectional.

In the coming weeks, more glances will pop up on pages and previews will run.

For many, the best way to get ready for the Super Bowl on Feb. 5 is to spend the Saturday before watching wrestling regionals. For those not into grappling, the Dixon and Sterling girls bowling teams will be looking for return trips to state at their respective sectionals in Galesburg and Oregon.

For now, read the rest of today’s paper, spend a few minutes digging out from the storm, and get ready for a fun month of prep sports.
