CHAMPAIGN – Illinois announced the hiring of two assistant coaches to new coach Tim Beckman’s staff.

Mike Ward and Alex Golesh both left Toledo, where Beckman had served as head coach the last three seasons, for jobs at Illinois.

Ward was Toledo’s co-defensive coordinator but will serve as a position coach with the Illini. Beckman did not reveal which position Ward would coach.

Golesh, who worked at Northern Illinois as a graduate assistant for two years, will be the team’s recruiting coordinator.

Beckman said he has all but one person hired to fill his staff. He declined to name the coaches because they are still coaching at their current team’s to prepare for bowl games.

Interim coach Vic Koenning said fullback Jay Prosch will not play in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on Dec. 31 in San Francisco. He has been hospitalized with a staph infection but is recovering, Koenning said.

While Koenning said he was not sure how Prosch was infected, he said he was certain the rest of the players and coaches were not at risk.
