Rockets fall in double overtime
An eight-point halftime lead slipped away for Rock Falls in a 53-52 double-overtime loss at Marengo.
Rock Falls (5-3) fell behind 8-0 but came back and took a 24-16 lead into the second half. The Rockets were outscored 27-19 in the second half of their third straight Saturday game to go to overtime.
Both teams scored six points in the first overtime. Marengo outscored Rock Falls 4-3 in the second extra period.
Jace Anderson scored 13 points and Eddie Nelson 11 to lead Rock Falls.
Kent Ganvik scored a game-high 18 points and teammate Zack Lundquist added 15 for the Indians.
“We had lot of things we didn’t do right,” Rockets coach Scott Olson said. “We couldn’t open it up when we had opportunities. It’s about attention to detail. We’re not at the focus level we have to be at.”

Polo 65, Morrison 55: The Geary brothers combined for 38 points to lead the Marcos past the Mustangs in a first-round game at Forreston.
Michael Geary hit five 3-pointers and scored 20 points, while Shane Geary added 18 points for Polo (6-2), which led 24-12 after one quarter and outscored Morrison 13-6 at the free-throw line.
Bill Bos scored 20 to pace the Mustangs (1-6), and Danny Dennehey added 16 points.
Pearl City 48, Amboy 35: The Clippers were outscored 41-30 after the first quarter in Forreston.
Mike Stephenitch led Amboy (4-4) with 10 points, and Tanner Wilhelm added seven. Boden Brandt led all scorers with 17 points for Pearl City (3-1).
Forreston 62, Oregon 56: The Hawks led 19-10 after one quarter, but were outscored 23-9 in the second period of an opening-round loss to the host Cardinals.
Kyle Remrey and Caleb Mowry scored 22 points apiece to pace Oregon (3-6), with Remrey hitting six 3-pointers. Robert Cornelius scored 22 points for Forreston (3-2).
Byron 74, Milledgeville 28: The Tigers jumped in front 27-9 after one quarter and rolled to a 48-point win at the Forreston tournament.
Gavyn Nelson scored 16 points and Colin Russell 13 to lead Byron.
Mitchel Rahn led the Missiles with eight points.
West Carroll

Stockton 66, Fulton 57: Reilly Calhoun hit seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points to lead the Blackhawks past the Steamers in Mount Carroll.
Erik Renkes led Fulton (0-8) with 17 points and Ryan Beiermann added 14 for the Steamers,
who were outscored 31-19 in the first and third quarters.
Erie 77, Galena 35: Four Cardinals scored in double figures as Erie rolled to an easy first-round victory in Mount Carroll.

Eastland 64, Warren 38: The Cougars led 19-6 after one quarter and 35-14 at halftime in a rout at Mount Carroll.
Tyler Giedd scored 18 points, Ty Hartman had 12 and Austin Hansen hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for Eastland (4-0).
West Carroll 83, Fulton Unity 36: All twelve Thunder players scored in a first-round rout in Mount Carroll.
Eric Naples scored 15 points, Jason Becero had 13, Tommy Losch added 11 and Brady Edwards scored 10 points for West Carroll (7-1), which led 29-4 after one quarter and 53-9 at halftime.
Men’s basketball
Highland Tournament
After a rousing 90-79 victory over Lake Land in the semifinals, Sauk Valley ran out of gas in an 85-61 loss to the tourney’s host in the championship game.
Highland (10-3) built a 48-27 lead heading into halftime. Sauk Valley (10-2) chopped the advantage down to 10 points at one point in the second half, but could claw all the way back.
“We just didn’t have it,” Sauk Valley coach Russ Damhoff conceded. “We looked as mentally tired as we were physically. But we had one heck of a run.
The Skyhawks were led by Dixon graduate Matt Ross’ 14 points. He also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds after going for 25 points and 21 boards against Lake Land (5-4), which began the season ranked 14th nationally.
Stanley Moore had
36 points and went 12-for-13 from the
free-throw line in that semifinal, and both players were named to the all-tournament team.
