DIXON – A local investigation into purported prostitution led to the arrest Wednesday of a Rockford woman, Dixon police said.

Christine R. Shaw, 23, was arrested Wednesday after meeting an undercover officer at a local hotel and agreeing to perform a sex act for $200, police said. She is charged with prostitution, a misdemeanor.

Police received many complaints over the last 2 months from residents at a Marclare Street apartment complex, who suspected prostitution was going on in the building.

Wednesday, officers and agents from the Blackhawk Area Task Force made contact with several suspected prostitutes through a website, and arranged a meeting at the hotel where Shaw was arrested, Sgt. Matt Richards said.

Dinesha T. Sharp, 22, also of Rockford, who was with Shaw, was charged with possession of marijuana, also a misdemeanor.

Both women are free on recognizance bonds.

Police don’t yet know if Shaw has any ties to the Marclare complex, or Dixon in general; the investigation continues, Richards said.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
