James L. Moss Sr.
DIXON – James Logan Moss Sr., 94, of Dixon, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Franklin Grove Nursing Center. He was a custodian at Del Monte in Rochelle for 10 years before retiring.
James was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Macedonia, the son of Walter and Florence (Biggs) Moss. He married Ruth Ashfield on June 8, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2005. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of Lincoln Avenue Church of God in Dixon.
Survivors include five sons, James Logan Moss Jr. of Akin, Donald W. (Kathleen) Moss Sr. of Aurora, Dennis R. (Rose) Moss of Dixon, Roger D. (Joan) Moss of Villa Park and David B. (Debra) Moss of Dixon; one brother, Charles Moss of Benton; three sisters, Roberta Bain of Ewing, Jackie Glover of Riverside, Calif., and Myrna (Ray) Beckman of Lyndon Station, Wis.; two sons-in-law, Rich Ekelund of Wheaton and Glenn Powell of Gilbert, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Dwight Moss; two daughters, Sharon Ekelund and Mary Powell; two sisters, Eileen Dewar and Patricia Rowhab; one brother, Bill Moss; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Vincent O. Marrandino, director of pastoral care at KSB Hospital in Dixon, officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center.
