DIXON – Kreider Services will receive a state grant of $159,256 to start a composting program using food and other organic matter.

The grant is one of seven being awarded by the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

The DCEO’s Food Scrap Composting Revitalization and Advancement grants are designed to divert food scraps and other organic materials away from landfills.

Kreider’s composting program will take scraps from their facility and other Dixon sites and turn the materials into compost for gardens and spring plantings.
