DIXON – A 79-year-old man was pronounced dead Saturday after falling head first into an underground well housing at White Oaks subdivision, where he lived.

An autopsy showed that Dr. Ake L. Dahlquist broke his neck in the 8-foot fall and died instantly, Lee County Coroner Jesse Partington said Tuesday.

Dahlquist’s wife, Gunnel, who worried when her husband did not come home, saw his car parked on the side of the road, found him inside the well housing and called police, Partington said.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department and Dixon Rural Fire Department were sent to the scene around 7:30 p.m.

Dahlquist, a member of the subdivision’s board of directors, apparently was there to check water levels, police said.

White Oaks is northeast of Dixon, off state Route 2.

Arrangements are with Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Go to www.prestonschillingfuneralhome.com to post condolences.
