AMBOY – Dr. Jerome P. Hochstatter, 74, of Amboy, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at KSB Hospital.

He was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Mendota, the son of Leo and Frances (Happ) Hochstatter. He did his undergraduate studies at Beloit College, Beloit, Wis., and at the University of Illinois. He then attended Chicago College of Dental Surgery at Loyola University, graduating in 1960. He served as a dentist in the U.S. Air Force from August 1960 until August 1962. Dr. Hochstatter returned to the area and practiced in Amboy for 44 years, before to his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, Amboy Lions Club, Amboy Knights of Columbus Council 8277 and Father Boland Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Mendota Elks Lodge 1212, Shady Oaks Country Club, Amboy, and Amboy American Legion Post 453; and the American Dental Association. He was a member of the Illinois State Dental Society, serving as president in 1995; a past president of Whiteside-Lee Dental Society; the American College of Dentists; International College of Dentists; and the Chicago Dental Society. He served as an examiner for dental licensing and was a past president of the Board of Examiners of the Central Regional Dental Testing Service. He also served as an examiner for the Northeastern Regional Board of Dental Examiners.

Dr. Hochstatter also was a member of the board of directors of First National Bank in Amboy. He was a past president of the Amboy School Board, serving as a member from 1964 to 1977; and a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Association of School Boards.

He married Nancy Gove on Oct. 20, 1956, in Frankfort, Ind.

He is survived by his wife; children, Kathleen (Frank) Mekeel of Amboy, Amy (Daniel) Kobilsek of Mendota, and Dr. Joel (Lisa) Hochstatter of Amboy; grandchildren, Ashley and Jennifer Mekeel, Kourtney, Kassidy, and Kailtlyn Kobilsek, and Jordan, Danielle, Jairon, and Mylee Hochstatter; and one sister, Dolores Aultman of Mountain Home, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, William L. Hochstatter and Herbert Turk.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, with the Rev. Monsignor Thomas Bales, pastor, officiating.
