Come to the Crossroads - BYRON – The first Byron Crossroads Blues Festival will be from noon to midnight Saturday at the crossroads of Second and Union streets. A $10 ticket gains admission to hear bands beginning with the Barstool Bob Blues Band and ending with Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames. Proceeds go in part to the Crossroads Blues Society’s Blues in the Schools Program.
WWII lives - DIXON – World War II is being relived this weekend in Elks Page Park. A militaria flea market is this evening in the park at 7883 S. Lowell Park Road. From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, there will be battles, authentic WWII camps and weapons demonstrations, all put on by the WWII Historical Re-enactment Society. Admission is free, and concessions will be available. From 5:30 to 8:30 Saturday night, there will be a “USO dinner” at VFW Post 540, 1560 Franklin Grove Road, followed by dancing to 1940s music. Bureau County Fair - PRINCETON – The Bureau County Fair is celebrating its 155th anniversary this week at the fairgrounds at 811 W. Peru St. New this year is the Elephant Encounter. Tonight’s grandstand event is a country concert with Craig Morgan; call 815-875-2905 to reserve a spot. Stand up and laugh - STERLING – Chicago-based SeeStandup.com will present the Vegas-Style Comedy Show at 8 p.m. today at Starlight’s Theatre & Lounge, 314 First Ave., Sterling. The Vegas-Style Comedy Show is a unique event that combines groundbreaking theater with accomplished stand-up comedians. SeeStandup.com shows have garnered a reputation for creating a fun, inclusive atmosphere. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Red Cross.
Catch a carp - DIXON – The public is invited to catch a carp fishing derby and a carp tournament this weekend. A catch-and-release derby for all ages runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Page Park. The cost is $12 for adults and $5 for ages 14 and younger. More than $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. A 26-hour professional carp tournament starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lowell Park.
