Carp derby, tournament this weekend in Dixon

DIXON – There will be a carp-fishing derby and a carp-fishing tournament this weekend in Dixon.

Carp Fishing Now, the city of Dixon, Dixon Tourism, and the Dixon Park District will present a catch-and-release derby from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Page Park.

The fee is $12 for adults, and $5 for ages 14 and younger.

More than $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded at 3 p.m. Sunday for the 20 largest carp caught, as well as for the top five girls and top five boys finishers.

Participants do not need to fish the entire time to qualify for prizes.

There also will be demonstrations of new carp fishing methods, and helpers will give fishing advice and support.

A 26-hour professional carp tournament starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lowell Park.

Rules, applications, and registration forms are at Kodiak Outdoor Sports, 735 N. Galena Ave., and Bunny’s Bait Shop, 1024 E. River Road, in Dixon; T J’s Bait/Canoe Rental, 305 S. First St., in Oregon; or at any time during the tournament at Page Park.
