5 Android Apps I'm Using Right Now

Have you just bought an Android-based phone? Here is a quick list of apps I recommend.

(In no particular order)

1) Scanner Radio. Don't want to shell out big cash? Good. 'Cuz this one's free. Scanner Radio connects to live streams from over 2,200 police, fire, weather, railroad, aviation, and marine broadcasts, much like a regular scanner can. I use it to plug in to area emergency channels, and keep up-to-date on the happenings when I hear those sirens blare.

2) OpenTable. Confirm restaurant reservations on the go, see nearby eateries in a visualized map, and search by price and cuisine, all with real-time availability. You can even get directions, and read reviews and menus, all from your device. It's awesome. (This one's free, too -- actually, they're all free.)

3) Movies. Movies by Flixster is a comprehensive movie search, theater locater, and information resource. You can see movies available on DVD, upcoming films with trailer previews, and movie ratings (and critiques). One of my favorite things about this app is that if you have a Netflix account, connecting the two is simple, and seamlessly transfers your Netflix details to your phone. This will let you organize your movie queue by adding and deleting movies, much like you would on the computer. It even knows which movies you have at home.

4) KeyRing. This bad boy lets you eliminate plastic membership cards, and transfers that information to your phone. How? Did I mention your phone is also a barcode reader? Well, of course it is. Scan your cards and go. The next time you need to present a membership card -- Sam's Club, prescription discounts, or even Best Buy, activate the app on your phone and you're set.

5) Aru Ringtones. Simple enough, it's an app that lets you modify your ringtones. The intensity of the app comes from the library of music you can pull from. Every music genre is available, including unique categories like "Game" and "Soundtrack".

These are some examples of the apps I use.
