Senior Marissa Gill is Newman Central Catholic High School’s January student of the month. She is the daughter of Mike and Sharon Gill of Sterling, and has a sister, Elise, 16, and a brother, Zachary, 20.

Favorite class: Physics with Lisa Cook. We do a lot of experiments and we have a fun time.

Top teacher: Andy Accardi, for strength and fitness. He’s a just a cool teacher. He’s funny and tells us interesting stories.

Extracurricular: Key Club, high school swimming, Sterling Stingrays, National Honor Society, Pastoral Council, BLIND and Junior Rotarian.

After graduation: I plan to attend St. Louis University and major in physical therapy or study to become a physician’s assistant. I also plan to swim at the school.

Paycheck: Arthur’s Garden Deli in Rock Falls. I make sandwiches and work as a cashier. People are friendly and you’re always busy.

Hearts: Black Eyed Peas, swimming, dance parties, biking, and fruit.

Darts: English and people who chew with their mouths open.

Her survival guide: Don’t be afraid to branch out and try new things.

Useless knowledge: Logarithms in math.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Random.

Secret twin: I look like Alexis Bledel, from the “Gilmore Girls.”

Personal trivia: I always have to have my toenails painted.

Dream job: Orthopedic surgeon.

Trading places: A professional athlete, to experience their training, so I could see what they have to do to train.

Trading spaces: Europe. It’s really pretty. There’s so much history and things to do over there.

Read this: “The Guardian,” by Nicholas Sparks. It’s a mystery love story. It made me want to keep reading.
