Steven Urrutia Sr.

STERLING – Steven L. Urrutia Sr., 63, of Sterling, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his home. He was employed by Northwestern Steel & Wire Co., as a crane operator for 33 years, retiring in 2001.

Mr. Urrutia was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Sterling, the son of Carlos J. and Consuelo (Cortez) Urrutia. He married Lynda M. Espinoza on June 21, 1974, in Sterling. He attended Grace Episcopal Church, Sterling.

Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Lisa (Hector Salmon) Urrutia, Dina (Junior Reyes) Urrutia, and Cassandra Urrutia, all of Sterling, Kelly (Brandon Staker) Urrutia of Walnut, Kari Urrutia of Edenburg, Texas, and Jennifer (Jason) Vasquez of St. Lucie, Fla.; one son, Steven (Mireya) Urrutia Jr. of Sterling; four sisters, Josephine (Mario) Coronado of Rock Falls, Hope (Benardo) Sanchez of Sterling, Anita (Javier) Aguilar of Aurora, and Rachel (Wayne) Ettawageshik of Chicago; one brother, John (Edwina) Urrutia of Dixon; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lupe Urrutia in infancy; and three brothers, Tony, Charlie, and Ray Urrutia.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Episcopal Church, Sterling. A gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
