DIXON – Marvin T. Spurgeon, 85, of Dixon, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at his home, after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Okema, Okla., the son of William M. and Mabel A. (Griffin) Spurgeon. He married Ima Jean Watson on May 14, 1950, in Barnsdall, Okla.
He was employed by Williams Pipeline for 36 years, retiring as a gang foreman.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Debra (Wallace) Karper of Franklin Grove; two sons, Danny (Cricket) Spurgeon and Timothy Paul (Julie) Spurgeon, both of Dixon; sisters, Elsie Robinson of Tuttle, Okla., and Carmel McClellan, Mary Watson, and Mavis (John) Seville, all of Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Jack (Evelyn) Spurgeon of Broken Arrow, Okla.; grandchildren, Jason Karper of Franklin Grove, Andrea Spurgeon of Peoria, Stacy (John) Osborn of Washington, and Courtney and Ashley Short, and Dylan and Molly Spurgeon, all of Dixon; and one great-grandchild, Morgan Osborn of Washington.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church, Dixon, with the Revs. Jason Karper and Walt Philbrick co-officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements were completed by Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
