Morrison City Council also on Monday:

n Received word that spending on the Morrison Sports Complex likely will surpass $3.7 million. The project, which has been fraught with cost overruns, is nearing completion and is scheduled to open sometime this summer.

Spending to date totals $3.6 million, and complex Director Jim DuBois said he needs about $75,000 more for miscellaneous equipment and bleachers.

n Approved a field-use policy for the Morrison Sports Complex, which gives preference to free play for local teams over paying tournaments from out of town.

n Authorized an 8.4-acre expansion of the Whiteside County Enterprise Zone, which will include the empty Wal-Mart at the corner of East Lincolnway and Lynn Boulevard in Sterling.

Sterling and the Whiteside County Board already have approved the measure. Under Illinois law, all 11 municipal governments participating in the Whiteside County Enterprise Zone must approve the plan.
