AMBOY – Mary M. “Madge” King, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted friend to many, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at KSB Hospital.

Madge was born March 28, 1920, in East Grove Township, the daughter of John F. and Mary Ellen (Clark) McBride. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maytown, where she served as church secretary for many years, was a member of the parish council, a religious education teacher and coordinator for more than 25 years, receiving the Master Catechist Award from Bishop O’Neil in 1989, and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Patrick.

She was a tax assessor and election judge in East Grove Township for many years, and a longtime employee of Amboy School District, where she was awarded the first Employee Award, was grand marshal of Amboy’s parade and in 1997, was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award.

One of her greatest accomplishments was the compiling of a cookbook of all her favorite recipes she had ever made or accumulated throughout the years. The book was published and a copy was given to all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as the book was dedicated to them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Francis McBride and Harold McBirde.

She is survived by two sons, Jack (Judy) King of Amboy and Don (Cheryl) King of LaMoille; four daughters, Carol (Larry) Stalker of Brown City Mich., Kathleen (Mike) Bonnell of Amboy, Mary (Jim) Shippert of Dixon, and Colleen (Greg) Henkel of West Brooklyn; 19 grandchildren, Greg (Cathi) King, Bob (AJ) King, Jackie (Ed) Powers, Luke Full, Nancy (Ken) Delikta, Ron (Michelle) Stalker, Bob Stalker, Heather Stalker, Brian (Amy) Bonnell, Jason Bonnell, Travis King, Seth (Heidi) King, Brandon King, Cory Shippert, Jeremy Shippert, Brennan Shippert, Kyle Henkel, Katie Henkel, and Ashley Henkel; 18 great-grandchildren, Ashli King, Trevor King, Tyler King, Kennedy Powers, Riley Powers, Breannda Stalker, Joshua Delikta, Lexi Stalker, Jarett Stalker, Brooklyn Stalker, Alexandra Stalker, Austin Cooper, Lane Cooper, Tatum Cooper, Kendall Bonnell, Morgan Bonnell, Alex Noble, and Emilio Reya.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Maytown, with the Rev. Carl Beekman officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Maytown. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. today at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home, Amboy, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
