STERLING – Mary Virginia Stevens, 94, of Oregon Health Care Center, formerly of Sterling, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the center. She was employed at various jobs, including as a rental agent for  John R. Stevens Construction and Rock River Homes, both of Sterling.  

Mrs. Stevens was born April 6, 1915, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of John Scott and Mildred Laura (Jones) Wallace. She married John R. Stevens in 1944 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sterling.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Stevens of Freeport, Barbara Ann Young of Fort Collins, Colo., Suzette Stevens of Lake Koshkonong, Wis., and Virginia (Jack) Thompson of Geneseo; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mildred Ruskin.

Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of cremains will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. A gathering of friends and family will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
