DIXON – Sauk Valley residents can get a dose of hip classical music next weekend when Ten O’Clock Classics performs at the Dixon High School Auditorium.
“We try to get at least one [concert] that’s fairly classical,” said Geoff Vanderlin, publicity chairman for the Sauk Valley Community Concert Association, which is offering the concert. “We’ve had some of our members who had asked for some vocal music, and Ten O’Clock does vocals.”
Season tickets cost $40; this is the third of four concerts for 2009-10. Otherwise, tickets will be available at the door for $20.
The nonprofit association sells memberships because “that gives us a budget for next year’s artists and to control expenses,” Vanderlin said.
It works with an agency from St. Paul, Minn., that presents several artists for the 18-member board to vote on.
Ten O’Clock stood out when board members chose the 2009-10 season’s lineup, Vanderlin said.
“They’re young, hip and they play from the classical repertoire.”
Founded in 2000 by concert pianist and Juilliard student Ronen Segev, Ten O’Clock was named for its 10 p.m. performance start time. The New York group, consisting of three musicians and a soprano, performed at bars, apartments, health clubs and dance clubs such as Studio 54.
