MILLEDGEVILLE – Robert S. Thorngren Jr., 89, of Milledgeville, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at CGH Medical Center.

Robert was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Princeton, the son of Robert G. and Myrtle (Herrick) Thorngren Sr. He married Lillian Miller on Aug. 9, 1941, in Milledgeville.

Robert farmed in the Milledgeville area all his life and also was a truck driver. He drove a bus for Milledgeville school district for 40 years, and was a part-time maintenance man. Robert was a member of Milledgeville Brethren Church. He served on the Milledgeville School Board for 12 years, holding several offices including president, and was a member of Carroll County Farm Bureau.

He loved the farm and enjoyed fishing and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Milledgeville; one daughter, Judy (Les) Meyers of Bonita Springs, Fla.; one son, David (Rita) Thorngren of Milledgeville; one brother, Roger (Carol) Thorngren of Mount Morris; one sister-in-law, Beth Holland of Thomson; five grandchildren, Sheri (Steve) Brezinka, Cris (Tim) Emerson, Scott (Sara Johnson) Thorngren, Kara (Lucas) Robinson, and Kalah Thorngren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Milledgeville Brethren Church, Milledgeville, with the Rev. Russell Gordon officiating. Burial will be at South Elkhorn Cemetery, Milledgeville. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements were completed by McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, Milledgeville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Milledgeville Fire Department and Milledgeville Brethren Church.
