Prophets shock Newman on wild night

The Prophetstown boys basketball team sent a shockwave through the Three Rivers Conference on Friday night, defeating Newman 66-44 in Prophetstown.

The Prophets’ Anthony Lombardo scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the second half, when his team outscored Newman 47-20 after trailing 24-19 at halftime.

Jacob Juhola added 15 points for P-Town (8-12, 4-6), with Scott Matthews and Kory Sommers adding 11 apiece. Tim Wilson scored 12 to lead the Comets (13-8, 6-3), whose TRAC-8 title hopes took a major hit.

Erie 62, Bureau Valley 54: Three Rivers upset night continued, as Eann Cox scored 27 points to lead the Cardinals, who led after each quarter at Erie.

Brandon Schmidt added 14 points and Eric Goodhart 11 for the Cardinals (7-15, 3-7). Alex Franklin scored 27 for the Storm (10-10, 6-4), and Joe DeVenney added 10.

Morrison 54, Fulton 48: Kyle Janssen scored 19 points to lead the Mustangs to a Three Rivers home win.

Travis McBride added 10 points for Morrison (14-9, 7-2), and Patrick Wagenecht added nine. Tyler Renkes led the Steamers (5-14, 2-6) with 17 points, and Nathan Fish had 13.

Riverdale 54, Amboy 40: The Clippers held a 10-8 lead after a quarter but fell against the Three Rivers leader at Amboy.

Conor Leffelman led the Clippers (1-20, 0-9) with 12 points. Wes DeClercq led the Rams (20-3, 10-1) with 19, and Erik Cewe had 11.

Polo 75, Orangeville 56: Connor Lincoln’s 25 points led the Marcos in Orangeville.

Also for Polo (9-9, 5-4 NUIC East), Jake Dollmeyer and Scott Scholl each had 12 points, and Michael Geary added 10.

South Beloit 77, Milledgeville 55: Kurt Landis scored 21 points in the Missiles’ NUIC East loss at South Beloit.

Keegan Neubauer scored 16 for Milledgeville (6-15, 3-7), and Connor Peters added 10.

Pecatonica 77, AFC 27: The Raiders (1-15, 0-8) trailed 25-5 after one quarter in an NUIC East loss at Pecatonica.

Eastland 60, Scales Mound 43: Collin Macomber’s 16 points led the Cougars to an NUIC West road win.

Reid Lessman added 14 points and Tony Dunlap Jr. 13 for Eastland (17-2, 7-0), which overcame the Hornets’ 21-4 scoring advantage at the free-throw line.
