MORRISON – JoAnn Vock, 76, of Morrison, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at her home.

JoAnn was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Sterling, the daughter of Edward and Martha (Oltmanns) Landheer. She married Paul Vock on March 2, 1973. JoAnn graduated from Sterling High School, and then went to nursing school in Dixon.

She graduated from Dixon School of Nursing in 1953, earning her registered nurse degree.

She was employed by Sterling Community General Hospital, Sterling Rock Falls Clinic, and the American Red Cross. She was Dr. Christophersen’s nurse for many years, and assisted him in the first pacemaker insertion at the Sterling hospital. She was an election judge for Mount Pleasant Township for many years.

She gave of herself always, and was very well respected by everyone. She loved working outside in her yard, where she taught us all to love the outdoors, to explore our surroundings, to take a minute or two to smell the roses, and just to love life and enjoy what God has given us.

She instilled a good work ethic in her children and grandchildren.

She also was a treasurer and devoted member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Morrison. She will truly be missed by all, including her dog, Roy.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Beth (Terry) Myers, Marty Ostrander, and Carol (Mark) Hill, all of Morrison; stepchildren, Paula (Tom) Dubois and Andrew (Dawn) Vock, both of Sterling, Ann (Mike) White of Madison, Wis., and Phil (Tracy) Vock of Morrison; grandchildren, Jacob Sowers, Aaron Gerlach, Christian and Sarah Ostrander, Mathew, Marcus, Jennifer and Jamie Hill, Katie, Andrew and Megan DuBois, Elizabeth White, and Nathan, Michaele and Abby Vock; one great-grandson, Randy Gerlach; one sister, Avis Chamberlain of Lyndon; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Landheer of Dixon; four nieces; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward “Bud” and Paul Landheer; one sister, Lorna Kreider; and one stepson, Brad Vock.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Morrison, with the Rev. Mike Winkelman officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling.
