Jeff Rogers, a 21-year veteran of the newspaper business, has been named managing editor of Sauk Valley Newspapers. He begins his new duties today.

Rogers, 44, has been editor of The Monroe Times in Monroe, Wis., for the past 5 years. He previously was editor of The Register-Mail in Galesburg and managing editor of The Journal-Standard in Freeport.

“Jeff is a first-class journalist with broad newsroom experience,” said Larry Lough, executive editor of Sauk Valley Newspapers. “His leadership will help the Telegraph and Daily Gazette do an even better job of serving their readers.”

As managing editor, Rogers will oversee the news gathering and packaging functions of the newsroom, as well as coordinate the print and online editions of the newspapers.

After receiving a journalism degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Rogers joined The Journal-Standard as a sports writer. He later became news editor and then sports editor.

He left Freeport to become a sports copy editor with The Times & World News in Roanoke, Va., before returning to The Journal Standard as managing editor.

“From a short distance, I’ve admired the work that’s been done by Sauk Valley Newspapers with the newspaper and online products,” Rogers said. “I’m very excited about the opportunity to contribute to the continued advancements of the news operation during a time of great change for the newspaper industry.”
