Ducks punch Rose Bowl ticket

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon’s thorny start has come up roses.

Redshirt freshman LaMichael James ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns Thursday night to send No. 7 Oregon to the Rose Bowl with a 37-33 victory over No. 13 Oregon State in the Civil War.

Oregon (10-2, 8-1) claimed the Pac-10 championship with the victory, ending USC’s seven-season hold on the conference title. The Ducks, who have not been to the Rose Bowl since 1995, will face Ohio State in Pasadena on New Year’s Day.

Oregon State (8-4, 6-3) was vying for its first Rose Bowl berth since the 1964 season.

College basketball

North Dakota State 60, Western Illinois 55: Eric Carlson scored 19 points in Macomb to lead North Dakota State past Western Illinois.

Ceola Clark, with 19 points, was the game’s high scorer for Western Illinois (3-4).

Eastern Illinois 83, Tennessee St. 81, 3 OT: Tyler Laser scored 15 points and hit big shots in the second and third overtimes to help Eastern Illinois to an 83-81 win over Tennesse State on Thursday night in Nashville.

Laser hit a jumper with 5 seconds left in the second overtime as the Panthers (4-2, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) overcame a 67-58 deficit with just over 1:30 left.

Wisconsin-Green Bay 90, Loyola 69: Rahmon Fletcher had 29 points as Wisconsin-Green Bay beat Loyola of Chicago in Green Bay.

Marcus Thomas came off the bench and led the Ramblers (4-2, 0-1).

Wisconsin-Milwaukee 57, Illinois-Chicago 52: Tony Meier and Ricky Franklin scored 14 points each to lead Wisconsin-Milwaukee past Illinois-Chicago in Milwaukee.

he Panthers (6-2) won despite a poor shooting night that saw them make just 29 percent of their shots, and 15 percent (4 of 26) from 3-point range.

Kris Harris led all players with 15 points for the Flames (1-4).
