SISSETON, S.D. – Memorial service for Daniel Eric Salembier, 36, of Sisseton, S.D., was at 4 p.m. Nov. 28 at First Presbyterian Church, Sisseton, S.D., with the Rev. Peter Reynen officiating. Ember Dady was the organist, with special music provided by the Wing-its.

Daniel was born Aug. 29, 1973, in Sikeston, Mo., to Alphonse and Donna (Groos) Salembier. He grew up and attended school in Dixon, graduating from Dixon High School in 1992. Dan attended Northland College in Ashland, Wis., for 1 year. He then went to Montana to attend Montana State University, Bozeman, Mont., graduating in 2004, with a Bachelor of Science degree in abused land reclamation. After his college education, Dan worked in the Florida Everglades and worked with New Mexico State University.

Dan was diagnosed with cancer in February 2008. He continued to work at New Mexico State University until May 2009, when he went to Sisseton and stayed until his death on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.

Dan loved the outdoors, he liked to snowboard, scuba dive, and swim. He also loved camping, hiking, and fly fishing.

Dan is survived by his parents, Alphonse Salembier of Parks, Ariz.,, and Donna Salembier of Sisseton, S.D.; one brother, Andrew Salembier of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Arrangements were completed by Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, S.D.
