KEWANEE – A plane crashed into a cornfield in northwestern Illinois, killing one person and leaving two others injured.

Authorities are trying to figure out what caused the plane to go down a half-mile south of the Kewanee Municipal Airport on Monday evening.

Illinois State Police officials say the 1976 single-engine Cessna had just taken off from the airport when it crashed.

Three people were taken to Kewanee Hospital for treatment.
