Kudos to Eastland’s state champion volleyball team

We offer our hearty congratulations to the Eastland High School girls volleyball team members and coaches.

All they did was win their second straight Class 1A state championship Saturday – an absolutely tremendous accomplishment, unheard of in the Sauk Valley.

En route to the state title, the Cougars bumped, set, and spiked their way to 40 victories.

Coach Kristy Pierce was elated, and who can blame her?

“It feels wonderful, even better the second time around. ... I don’t think there’s a prouder person right now in the entire United States.”

The people of Lanark, Shannon and Lake Carroll might beg to differ, coach. After all, they’re mighty proud of their players and school, too.

The Cougars’ success came not from luck or happenstance. An insatiable work ethic paved the way to excellence and their final three-set win over Mount Pulaski.

Congratulations for being the best of the best – again.
