OREGON – Gertrude Myers, 85, of Oregon, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at Franklin Grove Nursing Home.

Gertrude was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Oosterwolde, the Netherlands, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Kaperus) Engelsma, She married Robert Gerald “Jerry” Myers on Oct. 11, 1944, in Hebron. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2007. Gertrude became a naturalized citizen on Oct. 29, 1953, in Temple, Texas. She was a member of Chana United Methodist Church, where she formerly served as treasurer. Gertrude was employed by Caron Spinning, Kable Printing, and C.H. Ehmen Industries.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (John) Brenner of State College, Pa., Michelle (Edwin) Setzer of Riverside, Calif., and Terrance Myers of Loves Park; two brothers Charles (Susie) Engelsma of Machesney Park and Joe (Diane) Engelsma of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Chana United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rich Fassig, pastor, officiating. Private interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Oregon, with Sandy Graber, pastor of Waterman Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements were completed by Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.

Memorials have been established to Ogle County Hospice and Chana United Methodist Church.
