WALNUT – Earl D. Merrill, 96, of Homestead Apartments, Walnut, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Walnut Manor Nursing Home. He farmed in the Prophetstown, Lyndon, and Ohio areas, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Merrill was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Prophets-town, the son of George and Emma (Hotchkiss) Merrill. He married Elsie Wildman on Sept. 16, 1939, at Prophetstown Methodist Church. He was a member of Ohio United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dan (Carol) Merrill of Ohio and David Merrill of Dale, Texas; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and a brother.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m Tuesday at Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Paul Nolden, pastor of Walnut United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service. Burial of cremains will be at Limerick Cemetery, Kasbeer. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garland Funeral Home, Walnut.

A memorial has been established.
