MORRISON – John J. Gentz, 86, of 205 S. Clinton St., Morrison, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison. He co-owned and operated the former Ice Box restaurant in Morrison for nine years; and most recently operated concessions at Morrison Rockwood State Park for seven years.

Mr. Gentz was born March 5, 1923, in Brimfield, the son of Herman and Minnie (Sardison) Gentz. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, in the Pacific theater. He then married Esta I. Renkes
in December 1945. He later married Phyllis (Rick) Olson on Jan. 7, 1978, in Morrison. She preceded him in death on May 31, 1996. He was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheri Radenslaben of Morrison and Candy (Rick) Alford of Brimfield; a son, Jon Gentz of Morrison; a sister, Bernice Brown of Topeka, Kan.; a brother, Clarence Gentz of Rockford; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernadine Murphy, Irma Kirlin, and Minita Oppendike; four brothers, Fred, Ray, Herman and Wilbert Gentz; and a grandson.

Memorial service is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morrison United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas R. Petty, pastor, officiating, followed by a fellowship gathering.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Arrangements were completed by Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley and Morrison United Methodist Church.
