New way to measure makes Trump Tower taller
CHICAGO (AP) — A change in the way skyscrapers are measured has the Trump International Hotel & Tower standing a bit taller these days and now stands as the world's sixth tallest building and not the seventh.
A new policy by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat calls for buildings to be measured from what is called "the lowest, significant open air, pedestrian entrance" to the top instead of measuring from the sidewalk outside the main entrance to the spire or the structural top of the building.
That change adds 27 feet to the Trump tower because the bottom is no longer considered the entrance on Wabash Avenue but the entrance to the shops along the Chicago riverwalk.
