PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — Police say they have apprehended one of two men who escaped from the Peoria County Jail.

The two Peoria residents, 44-year-old James Fuller and 28-year-old Aaron Cook, were discovered missing early Tuesday morning. Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy said the men were last accounted for at 8 p.m. Monday, when they were locked in their cells for the night.

Cook was recaptured Tuesday afternoon in Peoria, and police were searching for a man fitting Fuller's description who broke into a home Tuesday afternoon.

McCoy says the two cut a hole in the ceiling of a cell, carved a hole in the concrete block roof, stood on a stack of books and got to the roof. From there, they used a rope fashioned from bedsheets tied together to rappel to the ground.
