ASHTON – The Lee County Sheriff's Department is trying to determine what led to a Tuesday morning traffic crash that killed two men.

Ricky Roberson, 23, Stillman Valley, and Robert Neary, 22, of Dixon were driving north on Track Road  when their car left the road and rolled into a ditch. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, police said, and both were thrown from the car.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no eye witnesses to the accident, Lee County Sheriff John Varga reported, and deputies were still trying to determine who was driving and how the car got into the ditch.

A passing Pacific Union Train spotted the car in the ditch and called police around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, Varga said.

A toxicology report for the men was ordered to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, Varga said. The report will not be completed for several weeks.

The crash remained under investigation.
