AMBOY – A Missouri man died early Friday morning after his pickup truck was hit Wednesday at the intersection of Inlet and Franklin roads.

According to Lee County Sheriff John Varga, Gregory L. Gordley of Hannibal, Mo., died from severe head and internal injuries at a Rockford Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation, Varga added.

Around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Gordley was driving south on Franklin Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign. Scott Ackman, 55, of Rock Falls, was driving a semitrailer northwest on Inlet Road and slammed into the front of Gordley’s truck.

Varga said both men were wearing seat belts.

Gordley and Ackman were taken to KSB Hospital after the accident. Ackman was released that day. Hospital staff stabilized Gordley before having him airlifted to a Rockford Hospital Wednesday.
